In 2005, Brandon Sanderson debuted with Elantris, an epic fantasy unlike any other then on the market. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Tor is reissuing Elantris in a special edition, a fresh chance to introduce it to the myriad readers who have since become Sanderson fans.

This new edition begins with a preface by author Dan Wells, the first person to read the completed novel, and a new afterword by Sanderson explaining how he came to write the book and its place in the Cosmere, the unified universe of all his Tor novels.

Also included is an expanded version of the "Ars Arcanum" appendix, with more of the technical details of the book's magic that fans can never get enough of.

Elantris was truly a milestone both for Sanderson and for the genre of epic fantasy. It deserves this special treatment, something Tor has done only once before, with Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game. Sanderson fans old and new will be excited to discover it.

A Great Story All Wrapped Up Neatly

Loved this story. Though it is obvious this is Sanderson's first work it is also fantastically executed and all the characters stand out as unique and interesting. I'll definitely read it again someday!

jwellingtonb

Good tale

Multi threaded and intriguing, lacks some of the edginess of the authors later works, but I throughly enjoyed it.

Shiva champ

Solid book, not as good as his later work

It was his first book and he admits it had some areas that needed improvement. Very slow for a lot of the middle but the end is good. Still worth a read but not his best work.

One of the best books you’ll ever read

Couldn’t put the book down once I started reading it. And have read it at least once I year since I first bought it ages ago

Good read

Really enjoyed this book. Great characters, rich world. Depth to both.

Great book!

I read this in a few nights during quarantine and really enjoyed it

DaReader101

Really good,some unnecessary scenes

This book has a lot of action with a really good plot but, there are some parts that just don’t need to be there. For example, there is a part where they talk about how she hasn’t married anyone in a while that leads to no action whatsoever in the middle of the roaden scene that was intense and I actually liked. Honestly I would have enjoyed it more if the scenes where they just talk without actually doing anything were removed but other than that it’s a pretty good book

Amazing

I loved this book!

Great Debut Novel

After reading the Mistborn and Stormlight Archive series, I was curious about his earlier work. I was expecting a clumsy story and was surprised by how incredibly good Elantris is. And you can see the first vision of the Cosmere! Incredible!

Joefishbrown

A perfect start to a wonderful authors career

Just fantastic writing to make you always want to turn the page and see how these characters figure out the problems handed to them

Amazing. Loved this.

This is the first of his books I've read and I loved it. Very interesting methods of magic and amazingly unique characters that build. Fantastic read. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Kal890987

Amazing

I read the Mistborn trilogy first, and was eager to delve into more of Brandon Sanderson's work. I chose Elantris next, and was stunned at how rich and full the story was. Masterful. I hope he writes more in the Elantris line - many more stories could be told from the world he has created. I definitely recommend this book if you like a combination of fantasy, magic, a touch of romance, and political suspense!

Very Good Read

I read this book many years ago and just read it again. It is a good as I remembered. I wish he had written a sequel, picking up where Elantris ends ...

Gamerwolf517

Unbelievable

I was on the edge of my seat as Elantris drew closer and closer to its conclusion. By the time I got to the end of the book I couldn't put it down, I read for hours straight, if that isn't the sign of a masterpiece than I don't know what is.

Epic

This is a fantastic book, it grabs you from the first few pages. This is the first book I have read from this author and can't wait to read his other works.

Yasumoto

Absolutely the best fantasy novel I've read in 6 years.

I haven't been this enthralled by a story in so long, I've forgotten what's it's like to stay up way too late reading a book. I just blasted through the last half of the novel in a 7-hour marathon until 4am, and I legitimately could not rest or put it down. The characters are all very unique, and rarely fall into typical stereotypes. I don't want to to give too much away, but will give an example I was particularly impressed wi. Even the "villain" for the majority of the book, the priest Hrathen, never loses his humanity and provides clear reasoning and logical follow through for all his actions. The mix of political intrigue, religious fervor, and ancient magic was captivating and thrilling. If you've been burned out by your typical fantasy story, I must recommend you begin reading this immediately.

Daniel5587

Good read

Pretty good read but not as good as the Mistborn Trilogy. Not nearly as much action and seemed to develop slowly.

rockciti

Eh.

It was okay. I generally skipped to the interesting parts about the Dor.

Solotone

Genius with flaws

The first 80% of the book was wonderful...interesting characters, complicated plotlines, edge of your seat twists. But the last 20% was disappointing...almost like the author felt the need to end it quickly. The solutions to the carefully crafted problems were rushed and contrived, with no foreshadowing. New and important abilities appear without foundation, almost up to the Epilogue. It's a shame really, because the world created is deep and involving and deserves a more fulfilling outcome.

Rifleman96

Great read to anyone who likes a fantasy. I will definitely read again and again.

Started much slower than the author's newer books but once it got past the elaborate setup of the world and it's inhabitants it was a great story with strong, complex, characters and a plot with unexpected twists.

Epic

Epic. This is a book to read. Best book I have read in a long time. I don't want to say it was as good as the lord of the rings or the star wars original movie trilogy but it evokes feelings on a similar level. It's characters are complicated, the struggle between good and evil is real, and the world of Elantris is rich with history. Yet the book provides this without lengthy background. Instead you are thrown right into the middle of the intrigue of the royal courts, the adventure and magic of Elantris, and are authentically surprised (at least once) at turns of events. I will read it again one day and recommend it to many of my friends.

ChristianCowgirl

Wonderful fantasy!

Elantris is the best book I've read in a very, very long time. The characters are wonderfully created and believable, the plot is amazing and not in the least predictable. This is definitely worth reading!
